West Lake Road's Junior Member Program is over five years old now. In that span of time we have had nine junior members come and learn what firefighting is all about. Many of them are now active members within the department as well as other departments. The program is designed to give teenagers (13-15) a jumpstart in training and experience in the fire service. Junior Members are included in most of our training and drills. They have the opportunity to learn about equipment, apparatus, and operations on and off the fireground. They also pull their own weight in our fundraising programs.
